Parāçara said:—"O Maitreya, listen to what I say anent thy question about Sri, as I had heard from Marichi. That Emanation of Sankara—Durvasa—was ranging this Earth. And it came to pass that the sage saw in the hand of a Vidyadhari a celestial garland,—perfumed by which, O Brahmana, that entire forest of Santanakas had become surpassingly charming to the rangers of woods. And it came to pass that on seeing that graceful garland, that mad Vipra practising the vows, asked for the same of that bride of a Vidyadhara.
In plain words: The sage Parashara begins telling Maitreya how Sri (Lakshmi, goddess of good fortune) came to be lost and found. Durvasa, a wild, hot-tempered sage who was a form of Shiva, was wandering the earth. He saw a heavenly garland in the hand of a Vidyadhari, a female sky-spirit, and asked her for it.
