As a king commands officials, saying to them: Rule these villages or those, so does that Prâna (spirit) dispose the other prânas, each for their separate work.

In plain words: The main life-force works like a king. A king puts officials in charge of different villages. In the same way, Prana gives each of the other breaths in the body its own job.
