Bhagavad Gita 6.1

Krishna speaking to Arjuna

He that performeth such action as his duty, independently of the fruit of action, he is an ascetic, he is a Yogî, not he that is without fire, and without rites.

In plain words: Krishna says the real holy person is someone who does their duty without caring about the reward. Someone is not holy just because they stopped lighting the sacred fire and doing religious rituals.
