Yoga Sutras 3.1
Patanjali, explained by Swami Vivekananda
देशबन्धश्चित्तस्य धारणा ॥
deśabandhaścittasya dhāraṇā
Dhāranā is holding the mind on to some particular object.
In plain words: Dharana, or concentration, means holding the mind on one thing. That thing can be a spot in the body or something outside it.
Swami Vivekananda explains
Dharana (concentration) is when the mind holds on to some object, either in the body, or outside the body, and keeps itself in that state.
