By means of thoughts, touching, seeing, and passions the incarnate Self assumes successively in various places various forms, in accordance with his deeds, just as the body grows when food and drink are poured into it.

In plain words: Through thoughts, touch, sight and desires, the soul takes on different bodies in different places, one after another, according to its deeds. It is like how a body grows from the food and drink it takes in.
