Chandogya Upanishad 7.15.3

'But, if after the spirit has departed from them, one shoves them together with a poker, and burns them to pieces, no one would say, Thou offendest thy father, mother, brother, sister, tutor or a Brâhmana.

In plain words: But after the life-breath has left their bodies, if someone pushes the bodies together with a poker and burns them on the funeral fire, no one says he is insulting them. This shows that the person was really the life in the body.
