Now verily that Pragapati, consisting of sixteen digits, who is the year, is the same as a man who knows this. His wealth constitutes the fifteen digits, his Self the sixteenth digit. He is increased and decreased by that wealth. His Self is the nave, his wealth the felly. Therefore even if he loses everything, if he lives but with his Self, people say, he lost the felly (which can be restored again).
In plain words: A person who understands this is like Prajapati (the creator god), who is pictured as the year. His wealth is like the outer rim of a wheel and his true Self is the hub at the center. Wealth comes and goes, but if he loses everything and still has his Self, people say he only lost the rim, which can be replaced.
