Vidura Niti 7.28

Vidura speaking to King Dhritarashtra

Exertion, self-control, skill, carefulness, steadiness, memory, and commencement of acts after mature deliberation,—know that these are the roots of prosperity. Austerities constitute the strength of ascetics; the Vedas are the strength of those conversant with them; in envy lieth the strength of the wicked; and in forgiveness, the strength of the virtuous.

In plain words: Hard work, self-control, skill, care, steadiness, a good memory, and thinking before you start are the roots of success. Monks draw strength from their discipline, scholars from the Vedas (holy texts), wicked people from envy, and good people from forgiveness.
