Bhagavad Gita 16.23

Krishna speaking to Arjuna

He who, having cast aside the ordinances of the Scriptures, followeth the promptings of desire, attaineth not to perfection, nor happiness, nor the highest goal.

In plain words: Whoever ignores the teachings of scripture and just does whatever desire tells them will not find perfection, happiness or the highest goal.
