Bhagavad Gita 16.17

Krishna speaking to Arjuna

आत्मसम्भाविताः स्तब्धा धनमानमदान्विताः। यजन्ते नामयज्ञैस्ते दम्भेनाविधिपूर्वकम् ॥

ātma-sambhāvitāḥ stabdhā dhana-māna-madānvitāḥ yajante nāma-yajñais te dambhenāvidhi-pūrvakam

Self-glorifying, stubborn, filled with the pride and intoxication of wealth, they perform lip-sacrifices for ostentation, contrary to scriptural ordinance.

In plain words: Proud of themselves, stubborn, and drunk on their wealth, they perform religious rituals only in name, to show off, and not in the way scripture teaches.
