The Gita in 18 days · Lesson 13 of 18
The same light in everyone
Chapter 13 explains two things: the body, which Krishna calls the "field," and the one who knows the body, the Self inside, which he calls the "knower of the field."
Then he says something powerful. The same God is present equally in every living being. A person who truly sees this, he says, sees things as they really are.
"Equally" is the key word. God is not more present in a king than in a cleaner, or in a famous person than in someone who lives on the street. The same light is in all of them.
This idea is behind the Hindu greeting "Namaste." It is often explained as "the divine in me bows to the divine in you."
If we really saw this, it would change how we treat people. It's hard to be rude to a waiter, mock a classmate or ignore an elderly neighbor when you remember the same light is inside them.
It also applies to you. On days when you feel worthless, remember that the same light is in you, equally.
समं सर्वेषु भूतेषु तिष्ठन्तं परमेश्वरम्। विनश्यत्स्वविनश्यन्तं यः पश्यति स पश्यति ॥
samaṁ sarveṣhu bhūteṣhu tiṣhṭhantaṁ parameśhvaram vinaśhyatsv avinaśhyantaṁ yaḥ paśhyati sa paśhyati
Seated equally in all beings, the supreme Lord, unperishing within the perishing—he who thus seeth, he seeth.
In plain words: The supreme Lord lives equally in every being. It never dies, even when bodies die. Whoever sees this truly sees.
